Zoomlion’s Story in Hong Kong: Starting from the “Pearl of the Orient” to Open up New Opportunities for Global Cooperation
2017-07-11

2017 marks the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland in 1997. 20 years time has passed very quickly. This shining pearl has made universally acknowledged great achievements and has highlighted strong vitality of the “One country, two systems”. More and more mainland enterprises have devoted themselves to the construction of this hot spot. Meanwhile, this tolerant, open and pluralistic city has also provided extraordinary opportunities and platforms for enterprises. Zoomlion’s story in Hong Kong is one of the microcosms.

As the world's leading high-end equipment manufacturing enterprise, Zoomlion has been continuously contributing to the development of Hong Kong, which is one of the most dynamic cities in Asia. Meanwhile, Hong Kong has also provided a convenient international platform for the rapid development of Zoomlion. Until 2017, Zoomlion’s market shares of crane and concrete machinery in Hong Kong have won the first prize for many years.

Fully Participating in the Construction of Hong Kong, Growing Up Together with the City

A “dragon” is stretching out on the southern sea of the motherland. This is the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge which has attracted worldwide attention. Currently, this sea-crossing bridge linking both sides of the Strait is under intensive construction. Several machines from Zoomlion have appeared on the work site.

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is the large-scale sea-crossing transportation project cooperatively constructed by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao for the first time under the framework of "One country, two systems". It is not only the longest sea-crossing bridge project in the world, but also the sea-crossing bridge project with the longest mileage, the largest investment and the highest construction difficulty in China’s construction history. A variety of ZOOMLION high-end equipment, e.g. all terrain cranes, stationary pump, placing boom, truck-mounted pump, tower cranes, etc. have deeply participated in the construction of the Bridge.

In the meantime, another “Built-in-the-sea” infrastructure project, known as the most expensive infrastructure project in Hong Kong history – The third runway system engineering for Hong Kong International Airport, is under construction. The construction works includes: reclaiming about 650 hectares of land from the sea at the north part of the airport island and constructing a new passenger terminal building, 57 aircraft stands and a 3800-meters long airfield runway.

According to the person in charge of the project, construction of the third runway project started on August, 2016. A variety of machines has entered and stationed in the project construction site, including four crawler cranes and several concrete pumping machineries. The new runway will be opened in 2022, and the whole construction works will be completed in 2024.

In addition to these two key projects being under construction, ZOOMLION products have participated in the construction of more than 10 projects, such as high-speed rail central station project, Hong Kong government affordable housing project, New World building, Austin Subway Station, Tin Shui Wai Children's Hospital, Chinachem (Golden) Plaza phase II, making contributions day and night to the super city of Hong Kong. In the future, the air-sea-land transportation system will converge here, bringing more convenient traffic and more beautiful buildings in Hong Kong.
