Recently, a major construction milestone was reached at a key alumina captive coal‑fired power plant project on Penebang Island, West Kalimantan, Indonesia. On site, Zoomlion’s ZCC6000 500-tonne crawler crane was officially put into operation, efficiently undertaking the lifting of heavy components. With its robust performance, the crane overcame the challenges of high‑altitude lifting on the island power plant site, significantly boosting construction efficiency and progress.

The project is a national strategic industrial undertaking in Indonesia. Following a construction sequence of “building the power plant before commencing smelting operations,” the current focus is on the installation of the captive coal-fired power plant. The construction site is located in a rainforest area on the island, characterized by cramped and muddy terrain and frequent strong winds. The main boiler house reaches a maximum working height of over 75 metres, while large steel structures and heat-exchange equipment are heavy and require long positioning radii. Conventional cranes cannot cover the full working envelope in terms of boom length and lifting capacity. Mult-section cross-construction further restricts crane positioning space, making precise high-altitude lifting over long distances a critical bottleneck for the project schedule. To address these challenges, the lifting team, after multiple rounds of load calculations and working condition comparisons, selected the Zoomlion ZCC6000 crawler crane and adopted an innovative super-lift tower-boom configuration.
The ZCC6000 crawler crane is equipped with a high-strength, lightweight latticed boom, a stepwise adjustable super-lift counterweight system, and a wide-span crawler undercarriage suited to the soft island ground, offering excellent resistance to crosswinds. Its intelligent electronic control console, combined with a panoramic monitoring system, enables micromotion positioning accuracy at the millimetre level, ensuring smooth and precise high-altitude alignment of heavy components. On site, the ZCC6000’s 100-metre composite boom extended gracefully into the air. When handling large items such as boiler drums weighing over 60 tonnes, multiple‑tonne water-wall modules, and extra-long high-temperature flue ducts, the crane performed with stable lifting and smooth slewing and luffing throughout, achieving zero-deviation precise positioning even under complex conditions of island gusts and muddy foundations.

Zoomlion’s comprehensive overseas localisation service system also provided robust support for the project. Before the equipment arrived on site, the company’s technical team in Indonesia followed the entire process, including boom assembly, super-lift system commissioning, and verification of load charts. During construction, a 7*24-hour responsive operation and maintenance mechanism was established, supplemented by customised maintenance plans tailored to the local high-temperature and high-humidity climate. Joint training sessions were concurrently conducted for both Chinese and Indonesian local operators, ensuring all-weather continuous operation of the equipment and eliminating concerns about equipment maintenance for overseas projects.
The successful field application of Zoomlion’s equipment on this project not only broke through the technical bottleneck of high-altitude lifting at island power plants, but also fully demonstrated the reliable performance of domestically manufactured large-tonnage crawler cranes in large-scale overseas metallurgical and power engineering projects.
